I decided I was going to make a movie that anyone who's ever been picked on could relate to." So I wanted to make a movie that represented who I was before I took on the Muck Sticky persona. "I was bullied growing up, and so was my sister. Considered "an oddball and an outcast" even among the other home-schooled kids who were brought together by their parents for weekly "physical education" and "speech and drama" lessons, "I was picked on my whole life," Muck said. The Hammerheads, in other words, are the ultimate bullies, and the embodiment of the anti-bullying message that is the "Zeebo Newton" raison d'être.Ī lifelong Memphian, Muck Sticky was born Justin Osburn in 1977, but "Muck Sticky," the entertainer, was "born out of not being cool," said Muck. These squamous method actors didn't need to be wrangled but simply slithered or rattled their way in front of Muck's camera, as if to complement the creepy presence of the movie's villains, a clan of rude roughnecks known as the Hammerheads whose activities range from annoying (mailbox-bashing) to criminal (woman-kidnapping).

That's a lot of hyphens even for as enthusiastic a multi-hyphenate as Muck, but he didn't make the movie alone. His supporting cast represents a who's who of distinctive Memphians, including singer-songwriters Keith Sykes and Amy LaVere Stax drummer and "Blues Brothers" band member Willie "Too Big" Hall newscaster Leon Griffin Oscar-winning hip-hop artist Frayser Boy and fellow rappers Al Kapone and Lil Wyte Randy Timberlake, the father of Justin and professional wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler, who - cast as a redneck sheriff - delivers the film's most memorable threat: "I will stick my foot so far up your (butt) you’ll be picking my toe jam out of your teeth."Īlso onscreen are several snakes, residents of the rural locations frequented by Muck and his crew.

Admission will be free, but seating is limited, so attendees must RSVP via the "Zeebo Newton" website or Facebook page.Īs one might expect, Muck is not just the movie's writer-director: He is its writer-director-producer-director of photography-composer-editor-star. March 8 at the Malco Studio on the Square, with much of the cast and crew present. So far, "Zeebo Newton" has been accepted into two California film festivals, but it will make its hometown debut at a special screening at 7 p.m.
